Languages Spoken In The United States

The following data comes from the Modern Language Association (MLA) Language Map and the 2000 US Census.  The MLA Language Map is accessible on the web at www.mla.org/census_main.

Each table shows the number of speakers over the age of five in each of the regions represented.  The "% Total" column represents the percentage of speakers out of the total population (age five and older) and the "% Language" column represents the percentage out of all speakers of all languages other than English (age five and older).
